BioReference Labs Installs RICAR in Accounts Payable Department

February 2011 – Ann Arbor, MI: BioReference Laboratories, Inc., a customer of Freedom Imaging Systems since 2009, has purchased and installed Freedom’s RICAR document and content management server based software suite in their Accounts Payable department.  This installation is in addition to the RICAR SMB Software installed in the laboratory.

In July 2009, BioReference Laboratories, the third largest full service laboratory in the U.S., installed Freedom’s RICAR SMB (Record Image Capture And Retrieval for Small and Medium Businesses) to improve and digitalize the management of their laboratory documents.  After much success and positive feedback from using RICAR SMB, BioReference Labs decided to implement Freedom’s server based software in their Accounts Payable department.  The same RICAR applications used in the laboratory are customized to make the Accounts Payable department business processes much more efficient.

Documents and data are captured by the RICAR system by various methods.  Physical documents are scanned using RICAR’s scanning application - FreeScan.  Digital documents are imported directly into RICAR by means of an import folder on a PC desktop.  Faxes are directly imported into the system using a fax server.  Documents such as purchase orders, shipping notices, invoices and checks are scanned into the RICAR system at BioReference Labs Accounts Payable department.  The department imports data feeds directly from their accounting system to automatically populate indexes of the images scanned.   Documents are fully searchable by such indexes as date of service and patient name.  Employees with validated security can search and retrieve a document in less than three seconds using RICAR’s document viewing application - FreeView. The flexibility of the RICAR software suite is evident in its installation at BioReference Labs.  RICAR SMB is suitable for small operations while RICAR Server Software Suite is built to cater to more robust customizable operations.  Although different in scale, both applications share the powerful return on investment received from expediting business processes.
