July 2011, Ann Arbor, MI: Freedom Imaging Systems (Freedom), a leading management and solutions provider, is pleased to announce Wilmington Pathology and Nextwave Diagnostic Laboratories, recently acquired by Solstas Lab Partners, have implemented Freedom’s RICAR software suite as their document management solution.

RICAR (Record Image Capture And Retrieval) is Freedom’s software suite that allows businesses of all sizes, across all fields, and within all departments manage documents and content of all varieties. With the utilization of RICAR in a laboratory setting, for example, numerous processes can be enhanced and expedited to enhance days’ sales outstanding and have an immediate and long term return on investment.

Solstas Lab Partners, a customer of Freedom Imaging Systems since 2000, has recently expanded to acquire two new laboratories in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Wilmington Pathology Associates and Nextwave Diagnostic Laboratories became part of the Solstas family in July.  RICAR was immediately implemented in the billing departments of both laboratories.  Using RICAR’s FreeScan program, requisitions and other documents relevant to patient information are scanned at each laboratory. Freedom’s software scans the barcode on each document and then indexes it based upon the information included in each bar code; including patient name and diagnostic code. These documents are then sent to a workflow queue in Freedom’s workflow program - FreeWf - where billing department members at Solstas headquarters in Greensboro can retrieve the documents and work them accordingly.  Each scanned requisition can also be viewed by anyone with proper credentials within the network using Freedom’s viewing module - FreeView.

A key benefit in the scanning and workflow processes comes in the form of the information gathered from an HL7 generated after the reports are complete for each patient.  These HL7 files are imported into the RICAR system, and then matched with the appropriate documents for each patient.  Information collected from the HL7 file such as patient’s first and last name, client code, sex, and date of service are then married with the corresponding image of the requisition and other relevant documents making the billing process tremendously more efficient.
